New Michelin-Starred Restaurants

New York City Has 19 Michelin-Star Restaurants!

The Michelin Guide started in 1900 and has recently released its list of restaurants of the year with new Michelin restaurants with nineteen on the list.

The Thursday released new Michelin Guide 2022 has included two newly two-starred restaurants and all previous five three-star establishments.

Michelin-Starred Restaurants

Receiving a star from Michelin is viewed as the highest honor in the culinary world. The French tire company awards up to three Michelin Stars with the new addition of Bib Gourmand (not quite a star) for excellence to a select few establishments.

Stars given by the Michelin anonymous inspectors can have a major impact on the popularity and success of the establishments.

Bib Gourmand emphasizes that the mention is more than a consolation prize.

One star on the Michelin guide represents a very good restaurant which means worth a stop, two stars are excellent cooking and worth a detour and three stars designate exceptional cuisine- worth a special journey.

Despite going vegan last year to heavy criticism, Eleven Madison Park has maintained its status with three stars {the most a restaurant can get) since 2012.

The other four restaurants which held their top position again this year are Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare, Le Bernardin, Masa, and Per Se.

Newly Two-Starred Restaurants

The two newly two-starred restaurants, which designate “excellent cuisine, worth a detour,” are Al Coro and Saga.

  1. Al Coro (Chelsea)

The anonymous inspector of the Guide 2022 appreciated the Italian cuisine-featured restaurant as the dining room sets the stage for a kitchen that dances behind the curtain.

Al Coro is supervised by Chef Melissa Rodriguez, and its website says dishes that take a bit of license.

After the two-stars honor, Al Coro posted on Instagram, Honored, shocked, and humbled.

2. SAGA

Saga is handled by Chef James Kent and features contemporary cuisine. The establishment is located on the 63rd floor of a 1932 Art Deco building in Manhattan’s Financial District.

It is written that Chef James Kent never allows his cuisine to be overshadowed by the setting. And he presents diners with compositions that embrace luxury, seasonality, and urbane inspiration with the help of his talented team.

Saga Restaurant

The acquisition of new seventeen restaurants in the list includes sixteen establishments from Manhattan and one from Brooklyn. The seventeen restaurants are 63 Clinton, Dirt Candy, Frevo, Issa, Joomak Banjum, L’Abeille, Le Pavillon, Mari, Noz 17, Fiji Mi, One White Street, Red Paper Clip, Semma, Shion 69 Leonard Street, Torien, Yoshino from Manhattan and Clover Hill from Brooklyn.

This number in the one-star restaurant category went from 49 to 55 with Kajitsu and Benno being closed and Peter Luger, Wallsé, Meadowsweet, L’Appart, and the Clocktower, Altamarea’s Ai Fiori and Marea dropped from the list.

Apart from additions, many restaurants are removed from the Guide list for 2022 with L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, Blanca, and Ichimura at Uchu shut down. The number of restaurants in the two-stars category was reduced to 13 from 14.

The anonymous inspector of the North America Guide stated in an interview that while assigning stars, they do not consider ownership or chefs. The decisions about demotions are made as sincerely as promotions and are an assessment of several meals over time.

Further, the Guide also mentioned that the criteria for selecting the restaurants include the mastery of flavor, the personality of the chef, and consistency between an inspector’s visits.

New Michelin-Starred Restaurants, Apart from the new release of the Guide 2022, the current year was a landmark for awards as well, due to the new declaration by the company. The announcement of a new batch of possible honorees every few months would keep Michelin in the limelight more often than its previous announcement of twice-a-year releases.
